AP Information for School Personnel

Advanced Placement

Advanced Placement courses are college-level courses offered by trained high school teachers in the regular high school setting. In 2008-09 over one-third of the seniors in Georgia public high schools were enrolled in AP courses. AP courses guarantee rigor in our classrooms. To learn more about offering AP courses in your high school, contact Becky Chambers, Program Manager for AP at the GaDOE, at 404-463-5098 or rchambers@doe.k12.ga.us Schools needing information on use of AP courses as a Gifted Service Model may contact Annette Eger, Gifted Specialist for GaDOE, at aeger@doe.k12.ga.us.

New AP Coordinators

New AP Coordinators in GA high schools need to carefully study the AP Coordinator’s Manual for guidance regarding the AP Course Audit process and the process for ordering and administering AP exams. If you do not have a copy of the manual, contact the Southern Regional Office of The College Board at 770-225-4050.

AP Audit/Authorized Syllabi

Principals must ensure that the syllabus for each AP teacher in the school is authorized by The College Board, or students will not be able to receive college credit based on successful AP exam scores. To authorize a syllabus, the principal must access the AP Audit registration site and enter the teacher’s name and then work with the teacher to get the syllabus submitted for approval. Principals that have questions about the Audit process may contact Mr. Bill Heron at the Southern Regional Office of The College Board at 770-225-4005.

AP teachers, high school principals, counselors, and AP coordinators should take advantage of the APCentral website. This resource has a wealth of information about AP courses and many layers of resources for AP teachers. www.apcentral@collegeboard.com

Georgia AP Teacher Network

The Georgia AP Teacher Network is an e-learning portal and collaborative learning environment provided by GeorgiaStandards.Org. Here you can find important AP announcements and information posted by our unit as well as an opportunity to share resources with other AP teachers in the state. This is a secure network and you must be pre-registered in order to access your course platform. If you are an AP teacher who wants to join or you are registered but have never activated your account, please contact Bonnie Marshall, bmarshall@doe.k12.ga.us, for further instructions. If you are already registered, link to the Georgia AP Teacher Network is located in the AP Resource box on the right. You will find all the AP courses listed at the bottom of the menu.
