PSAT Information for School Personnel

The PSAT/NMSQT examination is given once, annually. The 2011 PSAT administration date is Wednesday, October 12, 2011.

What is the benefit of having all 10th grade students take the PSAT?

This exam is an excellent opportunity for students to understand the requirements of the SAT, which is a critical reasoning examination used as a criteria in college admission. Tenth grade students who participate in the October administration of the PSAT at their home high school receive a detailed Score Report Plus in December. The Score Report Plus provides students with a comprehensive skills’ analysis of their performance and gives them a code which provides access to a website with additional test information and an interactive career information program called My Roads plus a planning tool called MyCollegeQuick Start. High schools who test at least 25 students in a grade level receive school reports in December and access to a website available in the late winter that contains a detailed, 17 page Summary of Answers and Skills report. This SOAS report is a valuable tool for designing school improvement goals, planning tutorial sessions for students, and evaluating the rigor of classroom assessment. For more information about the Summary of Answers and Skills report for your school contact Becky Chambers at GaDOE, 404-463-5098 or rchambers@doe.k12.ga.us

What is the benefit of having 11th grade students take the PSAT?

Students who take the PSAT as a junior are eligible to be considered for National Merit Scholarships.

Do students who take the PSAT score higher on the SAT?

Generally students in GA who take the PSAT as a sophomore score 50 points higher on the SAT than students not taking the PSAT as a sophomore. Students in GA, who take the PSAT in grade 10, and again as a junior, average 150 points higher on the SAT than students not taking the PSAT.
